I bathed and cleansed my soul,
scrubbed myself from head to toe.
Turned all of me inside out,
to and fro and back about.
Got rid of all the cooties
and old-fashioned snooties.
Disinfected the disease
of shame and miseries.
Power washed my tear-stained ears
from hurtful derogatory words and smears.
Scour padded my memories of abuse.
The flashbacks and pain are of no use.
If any triggers pull me now,
it won’t matter when or how,
for my chamber of bullets is empty
and my joy, hope and faith are plenty.
