Be Great at What you do…

“Be great at what you do,

and be better at what you don’t do.”

~Sue Walz

This is how my mind works. It flies about and swirls around inside a lovely little organ inside my head called this bipolar brain and comes up with these kind of deep, perceptive and abstract thoughts.

These kind of thoughts just pop up in my mind out of the blue, sometimes. My brain is always working nonstop sometimes, moving too fast and thinking too much, having too many thoughts and ideas at one time. But many times it can be a blessing, as well.

Bipolar can be a blessing and a curse. When it is a good bipolar day, I have learned to appreciate it and embrace it, never taking the goodness and happiness and my working brain for granted, never. When my bipolar symptoms are good, I appreciate feeling alive and the joy and beauty of living.

When I feel well and am doing my best, I am usually in a hypomanic mood pole. My moods travel from a severe depression to a hypomanic mood pole with not much stopping in between. It is okay though, because I have lived this way for many years and I am finally learning how to cope with it better, every day.

Even though I have many rapid and random thoughts, I decided to type this thought in my blog to share, save and remember.

I liked this thought, quote or free verse poetry, or whatever you want to call it, because it can mean so many beautiful and different things to many people.

It is kind of deep and abstract, so you have to think hard, but it is great to keep these bipolar brains or any kind of brain you have, working and thinking and exercising. So, today we are doing a little mental exercising, which unfortunately, happens to be the only type of exercise I have been doing lately. That is an entirely different subject for another time.

So, what does it mean? What does it mean to you? What do you think?

I think it means quite a lot…

For one…

“Be great at what you do, and be better at what you don’t do.”

Be a great speaker, but be better at not speaking and become a better listener.

When you speak and express your own thoughts, you speak of what you already know, but when you listen and listen with your whole attention and heart, you hear.

When you truly hear, you learn what you do not know yet. You can learn so many important and valuable lessons about other people and life and so much more.

When you listen with an open mind and loving heart, you let your empathy and compassion shine out for others to feel. You let others enter inside yourself and you let them touch your heart and soul, forever sometimes leaving a permanent and lasting impression in your heart. That is beautiful and can only happen when you listen, really listen.

What else could it mean?

“Be great at what you do, and be better at what you don’t do.”

Be great at whatever your talents and God-given gifts are and use them in the manner God intended you to use them, but be better at what you cannot do by accepting it and truly admiring and lovingly appreciating the gifts and blessings of others.

Hmmm… what else could it mean? It can mean so much more…

“Be great at what you do, and be better at what you don’t do.”

Be great at appreciating what you have, and be better at accepting and appreciating what you do not have.

Do not wish to have what others have, but love what you already have.

Do not wish to be like someone else or wish to be someone you are not, but accept and fully embrace and love who you are, just they way you are.

By George. I think that’s it!

“Be great at what you do, and be better at what you don’t do.”

Be great at living, and be great at not living. Be so great at living, that when you die you will be a great memory that will be so beautiful and unforgettable to everyone and to the future forever, that you will never be forgotten.

Leave your mark on the world and touch the lives of everyone leaving a lasting imprint on everyone’s heart forever and always.

Be unforgettable in a favorable, positive, powerful, inspiring, lasting forever kind of way.

“Be great at what you do, and be better at what you don’t do.” ~Sue Walz

What does that mean to you? Please think about it and share any thoughts or ideas, good or bad or indifferent that you may have. Thank you for reading and participating. I appreciate all of it and…

I appreciate you.

More hugs and many blessings.  Love, Sue

    1. Thank you. I loved your last sentence. That was awesome and very deep and thought provoking. I love those kind of things. Beautiful Lucy. You should put that in your blog somehow and somewhere. It was very very good. Love it. Thank you for sharing. Love, Sue

      1. It was your beautiful post that prompted it. I think it is lovely because who doesn’t want to be great at what they do. Being great at listening and supporting and giving others space often doesn’t hold the same prestige in society. Yet it is so so important. It is what keeps people alive. If certain people hadn’t given me space and let me come in I wouldn’t be here today. We can only try to do the same and make as much space for others in our hearts as we can. You do it and it has made a huge difference to me! Love, Lucy

      2. Thank you so much. You are so kind to me. I appreciate it greatly… more than you can ever truly realize. After I got done reading your comment, it made me smile. Thank you so much for that. You do not realize how much I need support and to hear positive comments like you keep showering upon me. Thank you from the bottom of my heart and soul. You are a very blessed person with a beautiful heart and soul. Thank you for being my blogging friend. Hugs again, Sue

      3. I can only say the same about you. It helps so much to have someone to talk to who has gone through similar things and has the same faith. Even though you’re probably on the other side of the world, we are so blessed to have the internet and have been brought together by it and our shared experience. Maybe we will meet in person some day. What else can I say except that your words have filled me with warmth and that I am so grateful. With much love,
        Lucy

      5. I read your post today on it and commented on it. I loved it. It was soooooo…. awesome and well written and I still love that one line about keeping our gaps open so others can enter in… you worded it better but that is how I remember it and what it meant to me. I still love it and will remember it. Thank you.

      6. Thank you. It has really sort of crystallised in my mind too… sometimes we don’t realise something until we say it. I am so glad I read that post of yours 💕💕 I just kept thinking about it and that’s how I ended up rewording it a bit. But both versions are true as think. Hugs and love, Lucy

      7. Yes they are both true and I love all the words you wrote regarding it. That is why love some phrases or quotes more than others because they are so deep and meaningful and can mean so many beautiful, different, and important things.

      8. Yes, often when you think about something or analyse a text, you realise that there are so many different interpretations it’s incredible. Also I have learnt so much about life just by reading and rereading books. I think also I find that certain books bring us closer to God. For me ‘little women’ did this and my favorite books were always C.S. Lewis’s Chronicles of Narnia. Since the main character is called Lucy I almost feel like they address me personally even more. Which books have you found most inspiring?

      9. Honestly for some reason my favorite book of all time was the Outsiders when I was younger and I have still always loved it. I think I could relate to this group of young boys and their struggles and survival etc. There really was a lot of psychological aspects to the stories of their lives. But now I love to read memoirs especially written by people with mental illness. They help me to know I am not alone and they inspire me. I love to read memeoirs and things that teach me more about people, mental health and life and living and what makes people who they are. I love to read and learn about people and psychology and God of course. I think I love to read anything that can help me and inspire me and help me to be a better person. I can learn so much from other people and how they lived their lives.

      10. I haven’t read the outsiders, but I will see if I can get it. I think that we can definitely learn so much from books and other peoples experiences. That is partly also what makes blogging so amazing; you hear how others live their lives. Especially finding other people living with mental illness has been amazing (I know that sounds awful but you know what I mean 😬) It is wonderful to be blogging friends with you. xxx

      11. Thank you dear. Remember I am a lot older than you. The Outsiders is a short book and is very old. I feel like it is a classic and it was even made into a movie with many popular celebrities at the time… Rob Lowe, TOm Cruise, Emilio Esteves, Patrick Swaze, The Karate Kid actor, and a few others you might not since you are so young. It was just my favorite when I was young. I thought it was creative too… how it was written etc. We do have a lot of comments going here don’t we? You are so kind to keep answering them Thank you. I appreciate it. I hope you are doing well. Hugs again, Sue

      1. Hi dear. I have read some of your blog, but not enough of it. I love your blog and have enjoyed reading all of the posts I have read so far. I am going to start reading more now very soon. It is another goal I have. I was completely busy writing my memoir during the month of November and now I am trying to finish up on a few things, getting ready for Christmas and hopefully will have time to read blogs again. I enjoy reading blogs and gain so much from reading other blogs. I learn a lot and it helps to know I am never alone. I miss reading other blogs… including yours. You are truly a very smart and kind, caring, compassionate, strong and inspiring woman. You are simply amazing. You are fabulous. More hugs and many blessings to you. Love always and forever, Sue
